The witches autumn solstice called Samhain is this week.
We're coming up on Samhain. It's a time for reflection, for honoring the past, and for preparing for the dark months ahead. Day and
night are of equal length, marking the exact midpoint between summer and winter. While farmers are busy bringing in the harvest, the
seas are turning more turbulent and the changing winds more unwieldy. It's a time for sailors to come home, captains to stow the ship
on the hard (in dry dock) & families to settle down for the cold sleep of winter... Save one. The Pearl Necklace is ever the hunted
beast of the sea that living men would kill if they could. Stalked by naval forces and the privateers they stole from, their reprieve is
always on the lee shore of some remote settlement or lagoon of a primitive indigenous people's villiage. They're giving their thanks
and welcoming the harvest from afar. Some longing for home, while others grow anxious to keep moving away from it. The Necklace's crew
give their thanks to live another day, to please the lady of the sea, and to find favor with Poseidon.
All or nothing will get you nowhere.
The last few weeks have been stressful as I've been fighting too hard to acquire a whole crew of musicians without any material
to showcase the atmosphere and style of our performances. In a rare moment of introspection, I sat myself down, momentarily gave up,
and accepted that I must build this show up one actor/actress/musician at a time. You can't forestall the organic transformation that
happens when you add new writers to the creative process. Adding one person at a time makes the most logical sense & ensures
everyone's common goals are aligned. My takeaway this week is that sometimes you just have to let go and let things unfold naturally.
It's audition time again.
We're coming up on the back-end of summer and it's about time we begin preparations for the upcoming auditions. Our positions
are unfortunately a lot harder to fill than one might expect. We don't need musicians that are Berklee alumni or studied at Juilliard.
We need folks who call themselves "intermediate level" & have a passion for performing. It's not often you find artists who're
willing to don a renaissance costume, put on their best attempt at an accent & play their part with enthusiasm. But that's what
this show requires. In truth, our show will be more tailored for YouTube presentations than live stage performances. Simply because
the return on investment for live shows isn't a lucrative endeavor like it once used to be. We'll do a few shows in a three month
period, just for the up close & intimate experience with the fans. But it'll be one night only engagements. Otherwise it's social media

Not everyone will like this format of show because we play so many different styles and genres, often within the same
performance. And our complexity of music will hopefully be a welcome reprieve from the usual monotony of mainstream
entertainment you hear today. We won't be doing complex polyrhythms, fusion of Indian classical with west African Djembe music,
or other highly intricate musical fusions. But we will be exploring a wide range of styles and challenging ourselves
to keep our performances unique and memorable. Anyway, I can't say it enough. We need some new blood.
I couldn't avoid the streaming services forever.
I have been behaving like the "Old man who shouts at the clouds" lately, resisting the inevitable shift towards streaming services. But sooner or later, you come to realize that streaming services are an unavoidable part of the modern music landscape. Being a purist in this day & age won't pay the bills, and you won't be heard by anyone. So, later this year we're starting an account with Bandcamp & publishing content there. We already have the posthumously released CD from our previous show "Necrovision" available for purchase, but we'll also be releasing new singles & albums in the near future.
